The blackberry is an edible fruit produced by many species in the genus Rubus in the family Rosaceae, hybrids among these species within the subgenus Rubus, and hybrids between the subgenera Rubus and Idaeobatus.
A 1-cup serving of fresh blackberries, which weighs about 5 ounces, contains slightly more than 60 calories. Nearly 90 percent of the calories come from carbohydrates.
Blackberries can be propagated through leafy stem cuttings as well as root cuttings. If you want to propagate lots of plants, leafy stem cuttings are probably the best way to go. This is usually accomplished while the cane is still firm and succulent. You'll want to take about 4-6 inches (10-15 cm.).
For each 100 g of blackberries, you'll get 9.61 g of carbohydrates, but 5.3 g of fiber, netting only 4.31 g. Raspberries are also an excellent choice, as they net only 5.44 g of carbohydrates per 100 g serving.
Storage. To store blackberries, put them in a shallow container and place them in a cool spot or in the refrigerator as soon as you can after picking. Fresh blackberries are very perishable and should be eaten or frozen with two or three days of picking.
